How long have you been illustrating for?
I graduated a year ago from studying Illustration at Cardiff School of Art and Design, so I suppose I've been doing it for a year professionally, with a few years of practice!
Portraying a range of women and body types appears to be an important part of your work, would you agree with this?
Yes, absolutely. I think it's really important to push for diversity in art - we have this amazing medium with limitless possibilities, and we have the opportunity to create something so much more interesting than what society is feeding us. Particularly with fashion illustration; the world is made up of people of so many different sizes and shapes and colours, it makes no sense for us to just keep showing the same one body type.
What is it about drawing a range of women you enjoy?
I find it much more interesting, and realistic, to see a range of women, or men, or anything in between. People don't look the same, and if they did the world would be an incredibly boring place to look at! We need to start celebrating differences and getting rid of the idea of the 'perfect body' in order to grow and move forward. And art can be a really good starting point for that.
Are there any other illustrators that you really admire?
There are too many to list, but a few are Martine Johanna, Tran Nguyen, Yelena Bryksenkova, and Laura Callaghan.
Where would you like to see your work feature in the future?
That's a tough question! I've been doing a lot of work for online publications recently, but it's always so much nicer to see your work in print, so hopefully there will be more of that in the future. I have plans to make a zine too, I just need to find the time!
